Q
01 Why do the pages
of my photo album turn slowly?
top
A The page turning feature requires a fair
amount of processing power. If you are using a large photo
album; e.g. a 780 x 580 sized album on an older, moderately powered
computer system, this could cause slow page turning. Try disabling any programs that are running in the
background, including any anti-virus program. If this does not help, a
workaround is to right click, and from the menu that appears highlight
"Turn Mode", next select "Slide". Slide mode will
continue until you manually change it or you close then re-load your
photo album.
Q
02
How do I insert a photo into my album? top
A
Left click "Edit" to activate the input fields (photo and text
slots). The image field is the larger of the two. Place your mouse
cursor inside this field and right click to reveal the "editable
image and text" menu. Select "Insert/Change image". You
will then be prompted to locate an image. Do so using your usual method.
Double left click your selection to insert it into the active photo
slot. Use the remaining editing tools to manipulate your image within the
photo slot. To view your entry and return to navigation mode left click
"Preview", to save left click "Save".
Q
03
What is page navigation mode?
top
A
Page navigation mode is the state a digital photo album is in when you can change pages. After you left click "Edit" to activate the
image and text input fields (photo and text slots) it isn't possible
to change pages again until after you left click "Preview" to
view your entries.
Q
04
How do I insert text into my album? top
A
Left click "Edit" to activate the text input field (smaller of
the fields). Place you mouse cursor inside this field then type in your
text. To view your entry left click "Preview".
Q
05 Does
selecting "Save" mean that in future I can't edit my album's
content? top
A
No! Saving is not permanent. You can edit and save an album's content as
often as you like. It is only after a page or album is
"locked" that further editing is not possible. For this reason
be sure that you will never need to change your album's content again
before applying the page or book "Lock" command.
Q
06
Can I copy and paste images into my photo album? top
A Yes!
You can copy and paste images into your album from web pages or third
party programs. Simply copy the image and select "Paste image"
from the active image input field's right click menu. You can then edit
the image as normal using the active photo slot's right click menu
editing tools. Please note; images that have been copied and pasted from
a web page or third party program into your photo album will
automatically be converted into the JPEG file format.
Q
07
What size of monitor should I use? top
A Although
acceptable results will be obtained using a 15" monitor, best
results will be obtained using a 17" monitor with its resolution
set at 1024 x 768.
Q 08 Why
do the pages not turn after I insert a photo or text? top
A After photos or text are added you
must left click "Preview" to return to page navigation mode
(page changing).
Q 09 What
is a page's "Email" button? top
A Left clicking a digital photo
album page's
"Email" button enables you to send your digital photo album as an
email attachment. You can type your own message into the box that
appears. A default message will appear beneath your own inside the new
email message. Caution; make sure that your album's file size is not
too large as this will take a long time to download if the recipient is
using a standard 56KB modem connection. This feature requires the end
user to have Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express installed as their
default email program. Please note; where an
"Email" button is included inside an eBook this is normally
configured so that when it is left clicked it will open up a standard
new email message box ready to be completed and sent off. It does not
automatically attach the eBook to the message.
Q 10
Why
do I have to copy my album from the CD-ROM disc to my computer?
top
A
Files written to a CD-ROM disc are allocated a read-only status, and
although
you can view and insert images and text into an album located on a
CD-ROM disc, you can not use the digital photo album's "Save" feature.
Q 11 What
computer requirements are needed to view a digital photo album? top
A You
will need a minimum of 256 colours to view, although with this setting
results can be unpredictable. 16 bit colour is recommended which is what
the majority of people use. Also, depending on content, i.e. the amount,
and individual file size of each image, a completed digital photo album
could end up as a relatively large file. This could result in slow page
turning if an album is used with an older, slower computer.
Q
12 What is the difference between a DNL and an EXE type
digital photo album? top
A A DNL type album is a .dnl data
file, and as such is resistant to computer viruses. This type of album
or digital publication require that the end-user has a reader installed
on their computer in order to view, and where the feature is available,
edit it. An EXE type album is a single stand-alone plain executable file
or program that does not require other programs or software to view it.
The CD-ROM disc's "Help Manual" and "User Guide" are
examples of this type of .exe file.
Q 13
What
is the difference between an active image field and a photo slot?
top
A Nothing! These are the names given
to the active area into which you add your photographs.
Q
14 Does anything get installed when I view an EXE type
album? top
A Nothing gets installed into your
computer.
Q
15 Why doesn't my album load after I enter my password? top
A The only reason this will happen is
if you inserted the wrong password. If your password was in lower case
check that you have not depressed your keyboard's [CAPS LOCK]
key.
Q 16
What
is an album page's "Lock" button?
top
A Left
clicking a lock button and accepting the prompts either locks a photo album's
content or an individual page, preventing further editing. Locking is PERMANENT and
IRREVERSIBLE! This is a useful feature if you intend sharing your album
with others as it prevents any third party from altering part or all of
its contents. You decide! If you wish to retain an editable version of
your photo album first create
a copy of the unused original, re-name it, and enter your photos and
text into it. Lock its content and share the copy! This leaves your original
album editable.
Q
17 What is the image input field's right click menu entry,
"Optimize" tool? top
A This tool is used to change the
quality of the inserted photograph. Higher settings produce better
quality images with larger file sizes, lower settings produce poorer
quality images with smaller file sizes. The resulting file size can be
seen beside the "File size" indicator. Optimum image
quality will be achieved with the slider set to 100%, with larger image
files!
Q
18 Is
there a digital photo album help file? top
A Yes! After left clicking a page's
"Edit" button to activate both the image and text input
fields, place your mouse cursor inside the photo slot (larger of
fields) and right click to reveal a menu. Select the
"Help" entry. Also, if your album was supplied on an autorun
CD-ROM disc a comprehensive User Guide plus a Get the Most manual in Digital Web Book
EXE format can be viewed by left clicking the control panel's "User
Guide & Manual" button then making a selection from the drop
down menu list.
Q
19 What
are image editing tools? top
A These are a collection of tools
accessed by right clicking inside a page's activated image input field
(photo slot) then selected from the menu. They are used to edit and manipulate
your photo inside the active photo slot.
Q
20 Why doesn't the album's background colour turn off? top
A The background colour on/off
command will not reveal/hide your computer's default desktop when you load your photo album using the
CD-ROM disc's control panel album selector button, or after the disc's
contents have been copied to your computer and the full presentation
program is loaded by double left clicking the CD_Start.exe file. The
most that will happen is that the background colour might change. However, it will work OK when you load your
digital photo album by double left
clicking on the actual album DNL file, e.g. family_03.dnl.
Q
21 What
type of image files can be inserted into my digital photo album? top
A You can only insert the following
types of image file formats. Bitmap (*.bmp), non-interlaced Gif (*.gif)
and JPEG (*.jpg). Please note; a bitmap file inserted into an editable
image field (photo slot) will automatically be converted to a JPEG file.
Q
22 What are the album "Locking" options? top
A The locking options are available from the activated image input field's right click menu.
-To lock a single image select "Lock image"
-To lock all images on the page; from under "Page option"
select "Page lock". Please note; this also locks any editable
text areas on the page and removes all links on the page relating to
editable images and editable text.
-To lock all images within the digital photo album; from under "Book
options" select "Book lock". Please note; this also locks
all editable text areas within the digital album and removes all links
relating to editable images and editable text. CAUTION: Locking an
album's page or entire contents is PERMANENT and
IRREVERSIBLE preventing
further editing.
Q
23
Why can't I save
my album entries? top
A If you are
using your album directly from a CD-ROM disc you will be unable to save
any entries. Copy it to your hard drive and use it from there. If you
still cannot save from your hard drive location right click the album
DNL file, e.g. wedding_10.dnl, left click the menu's
"Properties" box, and make sure that the Attributes
"Read-only" box is not ticked. If it is, remove the tick from
the "Read-only" box.
Q
24
Can I
order a custom made photo album? top
A
Yes! Contact us to discuss your requirements and be given a quote. Ask
for David.
Q
25
Why are some album download
sizes bigger than others? top
A This
is determined by the complexity of the album design. More intricately
designed albums will contain more information resulting in larger data
files, conversely albums with a simple design will generally produce
smaller files.
Q
26
Can I print an album's content? top
A
Providing that your album's print function was not disabled when it was
created (if it was, you cannot enable it) follow these simple instructions. If your
digital photo album pages do not contain a print link, right click on a blank
area of page, select "MenuBar" then "Display". Next
select "File". Finally select a print option.
Q
27
What's the menu that appears when I right click on a page? top
A
The contents of this user menu can be used to change the way that your
digital photo album operates; e.g. you can change turn mode from normal page
turning to slide, go to other pages, toggle background colour on/off,
etc. Any changes made are not permanent. Each time your album is loaded
it will return to its default settings.
Q 28 What's the difference between an editable and non editable album? top
A
An editable album allows you to insert and save your own photos and
text. Non editable versions can only be viewed and read.
Q
29 Is there a difference between a DNL reader and a DWB reader plug-in? top
A No!
Same file, different names.
Q 30 Can I buy on-line
using my credit card? top
A Yes!
All digital photo albums can bought on-line by secure credit
card payment.
Q 31 Do I need to know
anything about editing graphics to use an album? top
A No special skills are required. If you should need
help download the user guide
and help
manual. If your album was supplied on a CD-ROM
disc, copies of both are included and can be loaded from the control panel.
An abbreviated editable image help file can also be accessed by right
clicking inside an album's active image field (photo slot) then
selecting it from the menu.
Q 32
Can I change my album's password? top
A
No! Once issued passwords cannot be changed, or password protection
disabled.
Q
33
If I forget my password can you
re-issue it? top
A No! Passwords are not retained. Keep
a copy in a safe place.
Q 34
What is the DWB reader plug-in?
top
A Just as Acrobat Reader® must be
installed into your computer before you can view PDF files, the small
Digital Web Book reader plug-in performs a similar function for DNL type
files, which is the file format used for our editable digital photo
albums and
some eBooks. Installing the small DWB reader does not add any viruses,
malware, add ware, spy ware, advertising messages, banners, pests, or
trojans into your computer. It is completely safe!
Q 35
What type of
image files can I add to my album? top
A An album will only accept Bitmap
(*.bmp), non-interlaced Gifs (*.gif) and JPEG (*jpg) image files. When
Bitmap files are inserted they are automatically converted to JPEG image
format.
Q 36
How can I
restore my default desktop background? top
A The
background colour that hides your desktop can be toggled on/off by left
clicking any page's "B" link or background symbol link. If
neither of these are included, right click and select/de-select
"Background" from the pop-up menu. Refer to question
20 for more info.
Q 37
Can I change the album page layout? top
A
Yes. Most albums, with the possible exception of albums whose pages have
static image border areas or photo corner edging include a feature that allows the active photo and text
slots to be moved and resized. This allows any page
layout to be changed.
Q 38
Why do I always end up with large album .dnl files? top
A A finished
album's .dnl file size is mainly governed by four factors. How many
photos you add; their size; how much
optimization you apply; your use of the image trim
tools. 100% optimization will result in best quality images but at the
expense of larger files. Trimming an image is very important,
particularly if a large photo is inserted, this gets rid of any unwanted areas and helps keep final
image files small.
Q
39
What is a .dnl file? top
A
This is the file format in which your editable digital photo album is supplied,
and requires the special Digital Web Book reader plug-in to be installed
into your computer before you can view or edit it. Your album file name
will always be suffixed by .dnl, e.g. wedding_06.dnl.
Q
40
Can I re-name my album? top
A Yes!
Preferably create a copy of your original empty album, re-name it and
use the copy. This leaves the original as backup. Handy if you make a
mistake and lock it, leaving it un-editable.
Q
41
How do I make a copy of my digital photo album? top
A
If you intend sharing your album make a copy before you add any images
or text. After loading, right click on a blank area of
page then left click the menu's "Save As" command. Next, enter
a NEW name into the "File name" box. Finally left click
"Save". Alternatively, from inside Windows Explorer click drag your
album's .dnl file to create a copy, re-name it, then re-load the copy,
add your photos and text. When
completed lock it and give this version to your friends. The original
version remains editable.
Q 42
Why do I have to lock the copy album before sharing it? top
A Locking
makes an album's content permanent. This prevents anyone else from
making changes to it.
Q
43
Can albums be used with an AppleMac? top
A No!
Editable
digital photo albums are not compatible with AppleMacs. However, any of our EXE format
digital publications will work on AppleMacs running Virtual PC.
Q
44
Why can't I resize or move my album's photo or text slots? top
A
Not all albums incorporate these functions. If your album's page layout
consists of static picture frames, or includes photo corner edges, it is
unlikely that the move and resize features will be available. They are
seldom included with albums
that use this style of page layout.
Q
45
I received my album on a CD. Which folder contains my photo album? top
A
Your digital photo Album DNL file is located inside the
"My_Album" folder and will have a file name similar to
"general_33.dnl". Remember, although you can view and
insert photos into your album from its folder on the CD you will not be
able to save the entries. To use your album properly it must be copied
from the CD to your hard drive.
Q
46
Can I uninstall the DWB reader plug-in? top
A
As the plug-in will not appear in the control panel's "Add or
Remove Programs" section, for the average computer user the answer
is no. In practice, as the DWB reader plug-in does not interfere or
cause conflict with any other computer software there should be no reason why you should want to, or
need to remove the plug-in from your computer.
Q
47
Why does the cursor arrow change to a small hand with a + sign? top
A This happens when the mouse
cursor moves over an image contained inside an ebook or digital photo album that contains a pop-up link. Left clicking
will reveal a larger version of that image or a message box.
Q 48
What do you mean by a page's background
graphic? top
A This is the small square
dual coloured image that appears on some digital photo album pages. Left
clicking will toggle the background colour on/off.
Q 49
After I insert a photo why is the
"Optimize image" tool greyed out? top
A This happens when you insert a
GIF type image file, and is normal. GIF image files cannot be
optimized.
Q 50
Can I return my order and receive a refund? top
A Given the type of product, and the
fact that a free trial version is made available before purchasing, no
refunds will be made. However, if we are notified that a problem is
being experienced with an ePublication and we are satisfied that the
publication is in fact the cause of the problem and it is not caused by
your computer system, a replacement digital photo album/eBook will be made
available via a download link/email, or CD-ROM disc. You will be notified of the download URL
by email. The link will remain active for a period of 24 hours from the
time that the email was sent.
Q 51 Why
does my album completely fill my monitor's screen area? top
A This
is not a problem with the album. When an album is viewed via a 17"
or 15" monitor with a resolution setting of 800x600 pixels or
lower, this can happen. The answer is to change your monitor's display
setting to 1024x768 pixels. CAUTION: Be sure you know what you are doing
before making any attempt to change your monitor's display settings.
Incorrect adjustment can cause damage. Flat panel monitor resolution
settings are normally preset and should not be changed.
Q 52
My CD-ROM disc does not autorun. What should I do? top
A
Click on the
"My Computer" symbol on the desktop or start Windows Explorer.
Right click on the CD-ROM symbol in the My Computer window. Finally left
click "Autoplay".
Q
53 Are
the digital photo albums resizable? top
A
No! It's only the editable photo and text slots inside an album
that can be resized.
Q 54 After
I renamed my album it will not load. Why? top
A When you
rename an album DO NOT change or delete the file extension name. In the
case of an editable digital photo album this is .dnl, e.g. if you rename
family_700_440_10.dnl to something more personal, say, my_family, you
must retain the file extension. The new album name should now be;
my_family.dnl.
Q 55 Why
is there a coloured border around printed album pages? top
A This is normal! The
coloured border is part of an epublication's transparency feature and
does not show up when a publication is viewed via a PC. However, when a
complete ebook or individual pages are printed, this process will cause
the borders to appear in whatever transparency colour was used when the
publication was created. Original page transparency borders will not
appear when photographs are individually printed.
Q 56 Do
genealogy eBooks require the DWB Reader installed? top
A
No! Genealogy
eBooks are supplied as standalone EXE files. To view, simply double-left-click the genealogy eBook file name, e.g.
myfamilytree.exe.
Q 57
What are your 3D page turning photo
albums? top
A These are digital photo albums created by ourselves into
which you insert your own existing digital photos/images plus associated
text. Images and text are inserted into active photo and text slots.
There is normally one photo slot to a page, with a minimum of 40 photo
slots usually available per album. The simplest way to find out what you
can do with an album is to download any free trial version and try it
out for yourself. Remember to first download and install the small
(1.2MB) Digital Web Book reader before attempting to view or use an
album. The DWB reader is available as a Zip or EXE file from the
Downloads section, opposite left. After downloading, to install the DWB
reader double-left-click the "dwbreader.exe" file.
Installation is immediate, is perfectly safe, and need only be done
once.
Q
58 Can I enlarge photos after I insert them into my photo
album? top
A No! Although it's possible to position and crop your
digital photos within an active resizable photo slot, the inserted image
retains the final dimensions of the active slot. A comprehensive user
guide is available as a ZIP or EXE file from the Downloads section,
opposite left. It does not require the DWB reader to be installed before
viewing. After downloading, simply double-left-click the
"user_guide.exe" file to view the guide, which is in Digital
Web Book format. Nothing gets installed into your computer.
